The Provincial Government of People's Power in Ciego de Ávila conferred the distinction of Illustrious Son on Mayda Pérez García and Ubaldo Pereira Benítez, directors of the Historical Archive and the Telecommunications Company (ETECSA), respectively, for relevant merits, work results and the conduct of integrity for the benefit of society.
The award to Pérez García is endorsed by her performance as head of the Archives at the Máximo Gómez Báez University, her exemplary role as a Party member, her contributions to Culture, Historiography and Education, in the latter sector recognized as a Jewel of Ciego de Ávila`s Pedagogy, Assistant Professor and Associate Researcher.
The Master in Educational Sciences also received the category of Guest Professor, granted by the Ministry of Higher Education; and is the founder of the first Manuel Ascunce Domenech pedagogical contingent, the Union of Historians of Cuba, the José Martí Cultural Society and the Provincial Sugar Heritage Commission.
Her participation in national and international events, publications in 27 books (in four as main author and two as coordinator and co-author), more than a hundred articles, four multimedia and a digital text, all referring to the history of Ciego de Ávila are added to her merits.
Previously, she has been awarded numerous decorations, including the "Jesús Menéndez" Medal, awarded by the Council of State and imposed by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Republic of Cuba; the distinctions for National Culture, Joaquín Llaverías and Juan Tomás Roig, the latter conferred by the Association of Pedagogues of Cuba; and the Gilberto Caballero National Award.
As announced at the event, she holds the Ornofay prizes for her life's work, awarded by the Provincial Directorate of Cultural Heritage and the Provincial Museum of Ciego de Ávila. Besides, the Tibaldo Herrera Izquierdo honor, granted by the Union of Historians of Cuba in the territory; in addition to diplomas as an outstanding figure of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment. She has received awards from the Cuban Academy of Sciences and is co-author of the first three materials on Ciego de Ávila`s History.
In relation to Pereira Benítez, his qualities as a revolutionary and well-rounded cadre, his permanence for more than half a century in the Ministry of Communications, where he has shown discipline and dedication to work, in such a way that he constitutes an example for his colleagues, were highlighted.
With Master's degrees in Marketing and Communication, and in Management, and a diploma in Public Administration, he is distinguished at the national level as an honest and simple cadre, deserving of the admiration and respect of workers in the communications sector in the province.
The participation in the Defense exercises, the results and economic contributions from science and innovation, the fulfillment of strategic missions (inside and outside the country), the "Jesús Menéndez" Medal and recognitions as an outstanding cadre, also accredit him the condition of Illustrious Son.
For his performance for more than three decades at the head of ETECSA in the central region of Ciego de Ávila, Pereira Benítez also received a stimulus from the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.
