In accordance with the National Plan for Economic and Social Development until the year 2030, the Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) continues to expand and modernize its infrastructure in prioritized sectors of the province of Ciego de Ávila.

Viviano Moyano Trujillo, director of the Territorial Control Office of the Ministry of Communications, stressed that the state sector has more than 50,800 active telephone lines and 2,500 mobile data transmission services.

He reported to the Provincial Council of Ciego de Ávila that they are extending and increasing the speed of Internet services in educational and health centers, and in the Computer and Electronics Youth Club (JCCE by its Spanish initials).

In addition, they guarantee connectivity to the banking system and the Government, increase benefits in entities of the Ministry of Justice, expand bandwidth in all state entities and install new fiber optic networks in urban areas, he alleged.

The work is also oriented to the satisfaction of demands in entities linked to food production, including the Agro-industrial Ceballos, La Cuba Crops-Livestock Company, Industrial Fishing Agency, Meat and Vegetable Preserve entities; and the Cuban Bread Chain, he specified.

Moyano Trujillo pointed out that in the territory of Ciego de Ávila there are 41 internet browsing rooms, distributed in tourist facilities, JCCE and ETECSA offices; and 69 areas for wireless connection (wifi), in hotels, recreational centers, JCCE, the Jardines del Rey international airport, medical institutions and public areas of the 10 municipalities.

With 279,350 active cell phone lines, he assured that more than 64 percent of the province's inhabitants benefit from mobile telephony; meanwhile, around 430 citizens have international, national and temporary Internet accounts.

The installation of more than 8 970 Nauta Hogar services, the existence of 290 base stations in different technologies (2G, 3G and 4G), and the facilities for internet access in 46 of the 59 popular councils of the province, also denote advances in the computerization of society.

Among the priorities is the deployment of digital terrestrial television, currently with six standard signal services (SD) and three high definition (HD).

The National Plan for Economic and Social Development until the year 2030 recognizes telecommunications, information technologies and connectivity as a strategic sphere, with a high impact on national security, socioeconomic progress and the improvement of the quality of life of citizens.
