Probabilidad de apagones este miércoles en la tarde noche

An estimated deficit of 80 megawatts in the hours of greatest demand indicates that, in the late afternoon and early evening hours of this Wednesday, there may be interruptions in the electrical service, due to insufficient power generation in circuits throughout the country that they have them programmed for that moment of the day.

This was specified by the engineer Lázaro Guerra Hernández, Technical Director of the Electric Union, in his usual television appearance in the informative magazine Buenos Días, while notifying the out of service of several units the previous day.

The director explained that this was the case of Unit Four of the Santiago CTE "Antonio Maceo", Renté, in addition to the exit of the system of distributed generation units located in the eastern part of Cuba due to electrical storms.

This explains why 94 megawatts stopped being generated, with the consequent blackouts on Tuesday, May 31, between 5:47 pm and 11:37 pm.

Four and Five Units of the CTE “October 10” in Nuevitas are expected to be incorporated into the system for this first day of June, although unit Two of the CTE “Ernesto Guevara” leaves the system due to a leak in the boiler, in Santa Cruz del Norte.

Guerra Hernández clarified that in all provinces the Electric Union reports a blackout schedule for 24 hours a day, but the service is only affected "when we do not have the capacity to cover the demand." The schedule of affectations is communicated "so that people are clear when the service can be affected," he said.

Work continues on Unit Four of the CTE “Antonio Maceo”, in Renté; and also the maintenance on machine Five of the CTE "Máximo Gómez" of Mariel, the CTE Otto Parellada of Tallapiedra and unit Two of the CTE Lidio Ramón Pérez, of Felton, the latter one of the largest and decisive for the satisfaction of demand in the summer season.
