    tormenta tropical aviso especial 1

The wide zone of low pressures over the northwest of the Caribbean Sea and the Yucatan Peninsula, in recent hours has become better organized and has concentrated the clouds with strong activity of showers, rains and electrical storms to the east of the Yucatan Peninsula and in the seas south of the western region of Cuba.

Conditions have become slightly more favorable for a gradual cyclonic development, so that in the next 24 to 48 hours it could become a depression or tropical storm, as it slowly moves northeast over the western Caribbean Sea and the southeastern Gulf of Mexico.

The most important thing for Cuba continues to be the rainfall associated with this system, which has begun to affect the western and central regions with the occurrence of rains at intervals since the early hours of today.

From this afternoon, the activity of showers, rains and some electrical storms will increase in the west and center of the country, which will be stronger and more intense in the western half, with accumulations that could exceed 200 millimeters in different locations.

The winds will be from the southeast to the south in the west with speeds between 25 and 40 kilometers per hour, while in the central region they will be from the southeast up to 25 kilometers per hour, with higher gusts, mainly in the areas of showers and rains.

There will be swells on the southern coast of the western and central regions, which will increase to strong swells, with slight coastal flooding in low-lying areas of Pinar del Rio, Artemisa, Mayabeque, the south of Isla de la Juventud and the Canarreos archipelago.

On the rest of the coasts of Cuba, there will be waves, gradually increasing, as of Friday 3rd, to strong swells on the northwestern coast.

Given the persistence of several days of rain, attention must be paid to this hydro-meteorological situation, due to the saturation of the soil, mainly in low-lying areas with poor drainage.

The Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology keeps a close watch on the evolution of this meteorological situation.
