The working day of the authorities in Ciego de Ávila began very early this Saturday, in order to receive the heavy rains forecast for Saturday afternoon and Sunday, with maximum preparation.

The meeting of the Temporary Work Group, in the morning, according to what the journalists announced on the social networks of the Internet, was attended by the MSc. Óscar Benedico Rodríguez, Director of the Provincial Meteorological Center, who predicted accumulations greater than 100 millimeters in some localities, including Chambas, Florencia, Majagua and Venezuela.

“What today is left undone, tomorrow has a higher cost. It is essential to take all the measures that correspond in each municipality, at the level of popular council and community. We cannot neglect any detail.

We must have the evacuation and self-evacuation mechanisms ready. The most important thing: people's lives. And the other important thing is the protection of the means and economic resources”, Liván Izquierdo Alonso, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Party, warned.

Based on this, and the slight penetration of the sea in Júcaro and the south of the province, the work groups, led by Izquierdo Alonso and Tomás Alexis Martín Venegas, governor of the province, left to supervise preparation tasks.

In the tour of the territories, among the first to visit were La Playita and Guayacanes, in Majagua, the latter being the most affected during tropical storm Eta, at the end of 2020.

In dialogue with residents of Majagua, Liván Izquierdo Alonso assured that “priority is made up of the most vulnerable municipalities and areas. Moreover, in each one we will be, verifying that everything is guaranteed for the protection of the population, in the first place, to whom we also emphasize the need for discipline and self-responsibility.

In Florencia, one of the focuses of attention was the safety of the gates in the dams of the Florencia Liberation hydraulic complex, which other methodological phenomena have overwhelmed in recent years. In the morning, the fill level was 48 percent full.

Already under a light rain, the authorities arrived at the community of Los Perros, in Chambas, which is at risk of flooding; from there they indicated to prepare means of transport for, if necessary, a rapid evacuation.

In Morón, Nexy Véliz Naranjo, a member of the Provincial Bureau of the PCC, and Ania Rosa Francisco Malde, deputy governor, checked the protection of material goods and human lives, while cleaning the canal located in the El Vaquerito Popular Council, of the lower areas of the city.

Another meeting of the Temporary Working Group was monitoring the forecasts, just a few hours ago. Rains are still expected for tomorrow, which should decrease in intensity by early Monday morning.
