Se mantendrán afectaciones eléctricas durante todo el día

As reported by engineer Lázaro Guerra Hernández, technical director of the Cuban Electric Union (UNE), in the magazine Buenos Días, the situation with electricity generation will be complex, with effects for this cause throughout the day on Monday.

Precisely, the limitations of the electrical service began at 6:11 in the morning due to the low availability of loads.

Yesterday, the estimate was that there would be no affectations due to a generation deficit, however, the departure of Unit Four of the Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE) on October 10 (Nuevitas, Camagüey) and the demand above what was expected, caused the annoying cuts of the service from 8:11 p.m. to 1:40 a.m. this Monday, with a maximum impact of 299 MW (megawatts), explained the specialist.

For today, unit number 8 of Mariel must be incorporated during peak hours and later at night unit number 6 of the CTE of Nuevitas, which will undergo a cleaning process of its regenerative heaters.

Under maintenance are the CTE Otto Parellada (Tallapiedra in Old Havana), Unit two of the Lidio Ramón Pérez, in Felton (Holguín), and Unit 6 of the CTE Antonio Maceo (in Renté, Santiago de Cuba).

In this scenario, temperatures have risen, given the improvement in weather conditions in the country, and demands tend to grow, so the generation capacity of the National Electro-energetic System (SEN), which is limited, is put in a condition tighter to cover demand: no reserve loads and limited generation capacity.

Guerra Hernández commented that there are four fundamental causes that provoke this contingency: unforeseen breakages in the thermal power plants, the units that are under maintenance, with a view to ensuring the summer stage, limitations with fuel and in the generation capacity of centers in service. Regarding this last element, he pointed out that there are 485 MW reduced with respect to its nominal capacity.

In relation to the confrontation with the impacts of the intense rains of the last few days, until the early hours of this Monday, there were 3,083 consumers left whose service had not been restored in the country.
