LSB: And the tenth arrived! (+Photos)

The tenth crown for Ciego de Ávila, in the history of the Superior Basketball League, is not a pipe dream. Nor is it a dream of a group of young people —and not so young— who started this crusade on April 9 against the quintet from Sancti Spíritus.

This Tuesday, in the same facility, and against the same rival, they managed to raise the long-awaited trophy high, supported by an audience that, in the Giraldo Córdova Cardín Sport Room, has not stopped applauding them in the last three decades.

The final score of the match is almost insignificant, but we write it for history (88-78). The most outstanding player of the clash, Yasser Rodríguez (25 points), who also received the most outstanding plaque in the League, showed why he was designated the best organizing point guard of the match.

It was moving to see play in the last seconds of the match, as a regular quintet, men who have inscribed their names in Cuban basketball: William Granda, Vanier Reyes, Yoan Luis Haiti, Yordanis Jaca and Yasser himself. It is possible that none of them will be in the next fight again.

It was well-deserved that the highest political and government authorities in Ciego de Ávila were present at the closing ceremony, led by Liván Izquierdo Alonso, member of the Central Committee of the Party and its first secretary in the province, as well as the governor of the territory, Tomás Alexis Martin Venegas.

The respectable applauded when the sports director of Sancti Spíritus, Laidalí Santana Carrero, hung the silver medals to the representatives of that province. This was the best performance of a team from that territory in the history of Cuban basketball.

They also received distinctions for being the most outstanding in their respective positions the center Daniel Simón, Santiago forward Esteban Martínez and Daniel Castellanos.
