We are going to enter a decisive stage of all the support we need to ensure that the emancipatory principles of equality and inclusion that are defended in the Family Code are really approved, said this Wednesday from the Palace of the Revolution the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

At the gates of summer, which precedes September - the month chosen to hold the Referendum - the Cuban president considered that "it is a time when we cannot accommodate ourselves." There is no doubt, he said, that there is recognition of the virtues of the Family Code by an important part of the population, but we can and have the potential to reach more people. There is also recognition by our population of the Drafting Commission and the specialists who have led the explanation processes.

In the meeting where each step of the construction and explanation of the Family Code has been checked, Díaz-Canel considered that we cannot waste time; we cannot demobilize in the months of July and August, when many people go on vacation.

We have to continue with the argumentation, the clarification and the awareness of the importance of the vote. What do we gain by voting in favor of the Code or what do we lose if we vote against the Code, is one of the essentials that we must continue working on, he said.

After the authorities of the provinces of Holguín and Guantánamo gave an account, via videoconference, of the actions carried out after the results of the Popular Consultation were known in each territory, the Head of State considered that it is necessary to work person to person, house to house, family to family, youth to youth, worker to worker.

It is time, he indicated, to explain what the Referendum will be like, how it will be voted on, what question will be asked, how the validity of the process is measured, so that people can participate consciously.

This is a Family Code, above all, of spirit, of feelings, of understanding towards a group of problems that were not resolved in our society, stressed the first secretary.

In this new meeting with the Drafting Commission - which was led by the member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Party, Roberto Morales Ojeda - the leaders of the Federation of Cuban Women and the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution explained the work that they carry out in the communities to continue explaining and clarifying everything related to the Family Code. The completion of the electoral structures and the preparation of those involved in this process were also analyzed.

In the month of July, the Family Code will be put to the consideration of the deputies to the National Assembly of People's Power, after the transformations made to the document as a result of the Popular Consultation in which more than six million people participated. For September, the Referendum of this very important norm should be held.
