The approach to neighborhoods, with preventive and educational activities that have an impact on increasing the quality of life of the population, is the purpose of the Medical Sciences students in the province of Ciego de Ávila, immersed in the organic process of the Tenth Congress of the University Student Federation (FEU).
Yohant Pazos Montes, president of that organization at the medical university in Ciego de Ávila, highlighted that they intervene and carry out research in the vulnerable communities of El Cartón and San Agustín, in the main municipality, and Lázaro López, belonging to the territory of Majagua.
He explained that in these places political, social and mass organizations are integrated to promote transformations in the Primary Health Care (PHC) system, aimed at extending services and resolving risk factors through preventive and health promotion activities.
The actions contemplate investigations of patients with arterial hypertension, sexually transmitted diseases and acute respiratory infections, among which healthy habits are promoted that allow reducing the risks associated with these ailments, he specified.
In the houses of higher education, a survey is being carried out to locate university students in their communities, although it is preliminarily known that students of the Higher Level reside in the 58 popular councils of the province, who will take the Congress to those spaces, he explained.
Pazos Montes emphasized that it is about building the FEU in the neighborhood, while they are integrated into the transformation processes by analyzing the main health problems and contributing to solving them through social medicine.
They also intervene in communities such as La Rosa, Tuero and El Embarcadero, located in the municipality of Morón, in addition to holding exchanges with patients at the Roberto Rodríguez Fernández Provincial General Teaching Hospital and nursing homes and maternity homes, to inquire about their state of health.
They also bring art to these places by being accompanied by the Compañía D'Morón Teatro, so that the spirit of the patients is also comforted.
Even the communities arrive with messages in favor of the prevention of teenage pregnancy, a concern in the territory as there are 74 cases of school age, 185 under 18 years of age and 105 with social risks, according to statistics from the Provincial Directorate of Public Health.
It is expected that in the month of August the process called "The Congress towards the community, revolutionizing the neighborhood" will begin, one of the main activities contained in the program in greeting to the great event of Cuban university students, to be held in the month of December, coinciding with the centenary of the FEU.
The organic process of the Tenth Congress of the FEU began in the country on June 1 of the current year and, as of that date, has passed through different moments, such as the assemblies in brigades and student residences, developed with the broad participation of future doctors.
The pronouncements in this medical universities are aimed at perfecting the role of the student organization and the need to improve the infrastructure in these higher education centers.
To date, a direct delegate to Congress has been elected and the selection of another three is planned as the process progresses at the grassroots level at the University of Medical Sciences, so that Avilanian representation at the national event is ensured.
