IX Ordinary Period of the National Assembly of People's Power Begins

Comienza IX Periodo Ordinario de la Asamblea Nacional del Poder Popular

This Thursday, with the presence of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the ninth regular session of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP) in its ninth legislature is held.

The president of the National Assembly, Esteban Lazo Hernández, is recovering from covid-19, and will soon return to his usual duties, Ana María Mari Machado, vice president of Parliament, said at the beginning of the session.

He commented that Army General Raúl Castro is participating in the meeting via videoconference.

At the Convention Center in Havana, the deputies will receive information on the progress of the economy at the end of the first quarter of this year and will submit for approval the liquidation of the State budget in 2021.

According to the program, on this day the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Public Health and Industries will update the deputies on their activities and the most important results of the semester.

During this period of sessions, the People's Supreme Court, the Attorney General's Office and the province of Granma will report to Parliament, whose reports can be consulted by citizens on the ANPP website.

The deputies will vote for the Family Code project in its 25th version, which will be submitted to popular consultation next September.

As part of the activities prior to this ninth regular session, yesterday, Wednesday, the Parliament's 11 permanent work commissions met, in which they discussed the preparation of the tourism sector in the summer stage, the use of energy sources renewable and the epidemiological situation.

The measures for the recovery of cattle farming, the recently concluded sugar harvest, the situation of the port-transportation-internal economy operation and the state of improvement of the music business system were other topics discussed.

Bodies of the Central State Administration also provided information about programs and public policies being implemented.
