From the highest point, they returned the colors to the city of Ciego de Ávila by “unfolding”, with the skill of their hands and the help of equipment and paintings, the gigantic flags that identify Cuba, which have become attractive and inspiring for the people of Ciego de Ávila.

The 12 Floor Multi-family Building, located in the center of the City of Portals and close to the boulevard, has attracted passers-by and users of social networks since the plastic artist Jesús Alberto Mederos Martínez and the members of the local development project (PDL) “Vertigo, from Havana, began to transform the image of the building.

Mederos Martínez, although a native of Matanzas, assures that he lives in Cuba and summarizes in those words his commitment to take his art to the entire country, at a time in his artistic life when flags become recurrent elements and he considers that it materializes one of their dreams.

After Matanzas, Ciego de Ávila is the second province to which these frescoes are presented, which represent the National and July 26 banners, the latter with the ranks of the Commander in Chief recreated on the red and black.

Under the flags, his hands drew two frescoes that evoke the Sierra Maestra, one of the most important scenes of the struggle for the independence of the Island.

Due to their dimensions and colors, these works can be seen from airspace; he says so with pride and without refraining from expressing that the Cuban flag is among the most beautiful in the world, which is why he is also delighted to have illustrated it in countries such as Ecuador and Mexico. , sometimes accompanied by the image of Che.

The project in Ciego de Ávila properties, called Two Flags, provides new attractions to the City of Portals and has the purpose of extolling and reinforcing the admiration for these patriotic symbols.

He announced that it will continue in the country for the next decade and the Cuban capital could be the next to display those large-scale banners on some of its most lofty buildings.

In the property, the work was carried out with the technical assistance of the PDL Vertigo, specialized in work at great heights, with quality and respect for the client, based on the experience acquired by most of the workers when they joined the Cuban-Spanish company called Vertical Solutions.

Rafael Martínez López, owner of the also medium-sized company, explained that this brigade is specialized in preventive and corrective maintenance, using mountaineering equipment and techniques for work in urban and industrial environments, where safety and quality are the most important.

They provide service, above all, in places where traditional methods are too risky for workers and facilities.

Vertigo accesses and works at any point without the need to install scaffolding and cranes, its procedures avoid obstructions in common areas such as gardens and pedestrian zones, they manage to reduce intervention times and lower costs.

Although vertical techniques tend to be more discreet, in Ciego de Ávila the opposite happened because this team performed in the most central area and close to the boulevard, where passers-by stopped marching, observed, took photos and let out expressions of fear and astonishment at the challenge to the heights.

Nevertheless, there is nothing to fear – although there are always risks – because they are experienced in these tasks, with 16 years of exercise throughout Cuba and more than 22,500 hours suspended on ropes, Martínez López stressed.

It is not the first time that they are in Ciego de Ávila, previously they have painted the water tank in the town of Morón, the church located in the historic center of the City of Los Portales and hotels in the Jardines del Rey tourist destination, in addition to perform maintenance at the Samuel Noble Marina Sports Initiation School, he added.

The painting of the rest of the 12 Floor Building and the Rueda Hotel, in the city itself, and the maintenance of the central pavilion of Expocuba before the Havana International Fair (FIHAV 2022)are among his immediate projections, he said.

With varied maintenance offers, they contemplate in their curriculum provision of services in hotel and non-hotel facilities of the main tourist destinations in the country; and other economic and social entities, including industries, airports, hospitals and lighthouses located on the coasts.

Architects of one of the most significant and striking works that have been carried out in the province, Mederos Martínez and the Vertigo team left a unique mark and brought with them the best of rewards, the gratitude of the Ciego de Ávila citizens for adorning their city in a so peculiar, when there are only a few hours left to celebrate the National Rebellion Day.
