More than 90,000 Ciego de Ávila inhabitants between the ages of 19 and 49 receive the booster dose of the Cuban Abdala vaccine to prevent the possible increase in cases affected by the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the territory.

With a total of nine million 978 thousand 328 people with the complete anti-COVID-19 scheme, Cuba is advancing in the vaccination of its population, with the immunogenic drugs developed in the country, Soberana 02, Soberana Plus and Abdala.

José Luis López González, deputy director of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology, explained that the second booster dose would be applied only to those who have completed six months of receiving the full vaccination schedule.

The specialist added that as of August 1, children under 11 years of age would also begin to receive the first booster with Soberana Plus.

The province, he explained, reached 98.8 percent of immunization with the initial schedule of three vaccines, which is why it is possible to apply booster doses.

In order to carry out the process more efficiently, kindergartens and some schools were certified as vaccination centers, in addition to health institutions.

The director emphasized the importance of vaccination because it strengthens the immune system and avoids the risk of contagion from other respiratory viruses that are circulating.

Gradually and in correspondence with the scenarios experienced last year because of the incidence of COVID-19, the territory managed to comply with the vaccination stages of the second booster dose for people aged 60 and children between 12 to 18 years, 11 months and 29 days.

López González emphasized that although one of the main causes of the decrease in positive cases for the virus is due to the almost total immunization of the population, it is worth insisting on the importance of the use of the mask, as it constitutes an effective way to protect oneself against the virus. COVID 19.

The health authorities of the province are also immersed in the intensification of actions to prevent dengue due to the increase in feverish symptoms during the months of June and July.

The rainfall and heat characteristic of summer favor the conditions for vector reproduction, so the call is to intensify measures and thus avoid transmission events.
