In the fight against dengue, Cuba is focusing efforts on advancing vaccine candidates that induce the cellular immune response against the four seropositives of the virus, a strategy that Eduardo Martínez Díaz, president of the Biotechnological and Pharmaceutical Industries Group, checked on Wednesday at the CIGB of Cuba (BioCubaFarma).

Cuban scientists have dedicated decades of work to this ailment and made contributions that the Island has made to the world in the fight against dengue, a disease caused by four viruses.

To this is added other actions outside the laboratories, such as the measures adopted by the health authorities in the country, in all the provinces and the Isle of Youth, for the control of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, given the complex epidemiological context that Cuba is facing with dengue transmission.

Although there are still no indicators that demonstrate the presence of a dengue epidemic, hospital care is guaranteed for patients with admission criteria.

Recently, the highest authorities of the Greater Antilles, headed by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, called for overcoming difficulties and not neglecting first-order tasks such as garbage collection, fumigation and other actions to clip the wings of the transmitting agent.

On the same stage, the doctor of Sciences María Guadalupe Guzmán Tirado, director of the Research Center of the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK), commented that the situation has become more complex, since in the past the cause was in a single virus and it was easier to proceed, but then "we have had outbreaks and epidemics with two viruses, and even now all four serotypes are circulating."
