Un nuevo mural para la ciudad de Ciego de Ávila

Cutting the trees that surrounded the Carmen cinema, in the main city, has raised more than one contrary opinion about the relevance of cutting instead of pruning, but the truth is that after the felling an ornament has arrived for the city that helps to understand why. It is a mural that extends for several meters on the sidewall of this institution and brightens up the environment with its colors.

Its inauguration took place this Saturday in a simple ceremony, in which members of the José Martí Brigade of Art Instructors and the Matanzas artist Jesús Alberto Mederos shared reasons and commitments in front of the finished work, after a few days.

The intention is that the spectators complete the work leaving the marks of their hands smeared with blue and red paint, just like the colors of our national insignia. The shapes drawn symbolically allude to the family, unity, children and the rights that are included in the Family Code, legislation that will be submitted to a popular referendum on September 25.

With the music of Raúl Torres, the night had the edge of a show and already anthological songs in his repertoire such as Snowflake and Riding with Fidel were chanted by the public that crowded around the improvised stage.

The presentation is part of the tour that he is doing in the province these days, which has taken him to educational centers and neighborhoods in what he has described as "a long-awaited return, which he is very grateful for."

“Ciego de Ávila has been for me one of the stages in which I have launched myself as an artist since my early years. I have friends here and I made the video for the song “Fénix de cristal” years ago, however, I am always impressed by finding new artists and new ways of verse. I think there is avant-garde art in this province. I have verified that there is always an audience willing to listen to lyrics with content”.

In the next few days, a video clip dedicated to the Family Code should come to light, where Raúl Torres joins his voice with the troubadours Héctor Luis de Posada and Santa Masiel and Motivos Personales, as well as other musicians and instrumentalists for musical accompaniment.

Regarding the joys of sharing this common project, the singer-songwriter emphasized “I always collude to create and that is where this kind of musical laboratory came out with a very nice song, but committed to the document”.

The wall of the Cine Carmen is supposed to be completely covered by a larger mural, thanks to the intervention of other artists from Ciego de Ávila, who will have the challenge of achieving a coherent work that integrates with the environment, above all, because it makes a few months our public spaces were “retouched” restoring freshness around 10 murals distributed in key points of the city.

The experience was excellent and the walls revealed themselves as an opportunity to display the art of our creators. We know how to do it well, hopefully that certainty guides what is done in the future.
