Seguimiento a Ian: 6:00 de la tarde del sábado

At 6:00 p.m., the central region of Tropical Storm Ian was estimated at 14.3 degrees North latitude and 77.2 degrees West longitude, a position that places it in the waters of the central Caribbean Sea about 400 kilometers south of Kingston, Jamaica and about 715 kilometers southeast of Grand Cayman.

Tropical storm Ian has continued with little change in its organization and intensity, which is why it maintains maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour, with higher gusts, and a central pressure of 1003 hectoPascal. Its movement is close to the west, now at 26 kilometers per hour.

In the next 12 to 24 hours, the tropical storm will continue with a similar course and travel speed, tilting its trajectory to the northwest and north-northwest this Sunday, gaining more organization and intensity, with the possibility of reaching the hurricane category on Sunday.

The Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology maintains a close watch on the evolution of this tropical cyclone organism, due to the potential danger it represents for western Cuba. Given its position and forecast trajectory, tropical storm Ian could cause strong winds, heavy and intense rains and coastal flooding in low-lying areas of the southern coast in this part of the Cuban territory starting on Monday, September 26.

The next tropical cyclone warning for this system will be issued at midnight.
