The presence of computer technology and communications services in three defined macro-programs in the National Plan for Economic and Social Development (PNDES) until the year 2030 favors its improvement and expansion in the province of Ciego de Ávila.

Viviano Moyano Trujillo, director of the Territorial Control Office of the Ministry of Communications (MINCOM by its Spanish initials), stressed that entities from Ciego de Ávila in the sector participate in projects aimed at improving telecommunications infrastructure and services, and expanding digital television, electronic commerce and government.

Moreover, a program aimed at promoting the industry of computer applications and services, and cybersecurity, all determining factors in the progress strategies of the province and the country, he added.

He pointed out that between the months of January 2021 and August 2022, work was done on the computerization of society and cybersecurity, based on policies outlined in the nation and the execution of programs and projects.

He considered as a strength the integration of the members of the Union of Informatics of Cuba and workers of the Young Computer and Electronics Club to the digital transformation from the municipalities.

Moyano Trujillo proposed as a challenge the incorporation of new base stations and expansion of the cell phone network, with priority in 11 communities that do not have internet access, of which six (Mamonal, Jagueyal, Corea, Grúa Nueva, Los Naranjos and Mabuya) they will benefit from investments that foresee the addition of mobile stations.

In two other localities (Liborio and Peonía), studies are being carried out to find solutions through the installation of wireless connection sites (wifi) and three population settlements remain (Las 20, Pablo and Las Palmas), where the panorama is more complex due to the distance of access networks, he specified.

In addition, the expansion of the infrastructure is conceived to increase the services of Nauta Hogar and the province is ready to introduce new technologies in this field.

As other projections, he referred to the increase in connectivity in institutions and entities, in addition to the development and extension of capacities, and the search for new solutions to attend to areas of difficult access, productive poles and other priorities of the territory.

To fulfill these purposes, compliance with the investment plan is required, which will allow the stability and development of the telecommunications infrastructure, he specified.

In Ciego de Ávila, 4G technology is also deployed in the 700 megahertz (MHz) band, an initial step to favor the transition from digital to analog television, and maintenance is carried out on transmitters to maintain stability and quality of service, he explained.

Likewise, financing is awaited to solve the problems with the television signal in the towns of Rincón de Mabuya and Piedra, in the municipality of Chambas.

Regarding the digital government, work is being done on the incorporation of new procedures, services and interaction spaces in the Citizen's Portal, to increase the possibilities of participating and establishing dialogues between the government and the population.

Progress has been made in the use of the digital signature in government institutions and the main entities of the territory, with more than 300 headings distributed in 54 organizations and in different phases of implementation.

New platforms for the deposit of balance and payments through cell phones (Mobile Wallet of the Telecommunications Company) facilitate the remuneration of benefits and attract currencies from abroad.

As another initiative, the Extra Box service is presented, through the use of the Transfermóvil and EnZona platforms to withdraw cash in commercial units such as markets and warehouses, which helps to alleviate the difficulties with ATMs.

According to the information provided by the MINCOM Territorial Control Office, work is being done to achieve massive use of electronic channels among all the actors involved in the production and marketing of goods and services.

The strategies contemplate the expansion of the use of the QR code, fundamentally in MINCOM entities, without ruling out the opportunities offered by 121 virtual stores and another 1,441 establishments with an electronic payment system, limited options due to low sales levels.

Computerization is also advancing in the Post Office of Cuba, which will make it possible to incorporate new services and increase efficiency in the processing of postal shipments, reduce delivery times, enter electronic commerce and improve attention to customer complaints.

The improvement and expansion of computer and communications services are priorities; therefore, in the midst of a complex economic situation, investments and the search for alternatives to improve and extend services continue, Mayra Arevich Marín, head of MINCOM in Ciego de Ávila, recently expressed.
