Solidaraidd de telecomunicadores avileños

Technicians from the Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) in Ciego de Ávila responded to the call for solidarity and cooperation with western Cuba, after the devastating passage of Hurricane Ian. On Wednesday, a brigade of eight disruptive repairmen left to restore communications in the affected places.

Under the command of engineer Jorge Guzmán, they are already working on the recovery in Artemisa, Lourdes Morgado Pérez, communication specialist at the ETECSA directorate in the territory, told Invasor.

In that province, the most impacted municipalities are Bahía Honda and San Cristóbal, and the main damages are in the ETECSA outdoor plant, electricity poles, cables and downspouts, a tweet from the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications specified.

This Thursday, another brigade left for the area devastated by Hurricane Ian and tomorrow, Friday, a third will do so, with five operators each one, specialized in the maintenance and repair of the lines and in power cutting and downspout, considered the last mile, since it is the section of the pole to the houses, the communicator specified.

Preliminary data published by ETECSA on Twitter show some 380 base stations out of service in the provinces of Pinar del Río, Artemisa and Havana.

At the close of this information, the most relevant identified incidents are in mobile services with more than 380 radio bases interrupted, concentrating in Pinar del Río, Artemisa and Havana.

Regarding the situation of telecommunications in Ciego de Ávila, Lourdes Morgado Pérez pointed out that the lack of electricity caused by the emergency in the National Electroenergetic System has taken several radio bases and fixed telephony cabinets out of service.

To alleviate this impact, equipment is being introduced that recharges the battery system on time, so that the service can be guaranteed for a few hours of the day.

📣 We inform that, until now, a significant number of radio bases and cabinets have been identified with a lack of electrical fluid, which impacts the operation of mobile 📱 and fixed services.
