Llama Vicepresidente cubano a poner orden en el campo ante apremio en la producción de alimentos

Salvador Valdés Mesa, vice president of the Republic of Cuba, convened to put order in the countryside and meet the productive commitments of the country and other provinces, in an exchange with directors of the agricultural sector of the province of Ciego de Ávila.

Topics such as food sovereignty, municipal supply, specific analyzes in the sectors of livestock, Azcuba and other branches, were at the center of the exchange at the meeting, which was also chaired by Liván Izquierdo Alonso, a member of the Central Committee of the Party and his first secretary in Ciego de Ávila, and by Tomás Alexis Martín, governor of the province.

“Putting order means complying with contracts, which must be more truthful; eliminate the theft of agricultural products and cables that conduct electricity in the irrigation machines and complete the peasant patrols”, Valdés Mesa affirmed.

“The producer has to take care of the resources under his ownership and must guard them, because it is impossible to put a law enforcement officer on each animal or in the productive areas,” he specified.

"The data speaks of a lot of lack of control in livestock and we must put an end to the disorder," the Cuban vice president stressed.

It is inconceivable, for example, that the figures for the illegal slaughter of large livestock have increased ostensibly, to the extent that 2,700 animals have been slaughtered so far this year, 1,795 more than the total number of deaths from this cause in the previous year.

Yaisel Vega González, delegate of agriculture in the territory, announced that the province is unable to meet the delivery of milk and that the deficit of this food is around 800,000 liters so far this year, a reality that forced a review contracts with producers and establish face-to-face dialogues, to buy all the available milk.

Miguel Rosales Román, Director of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture, advised that more cassava, sweet potato, squash, cucumber, tomato, eggplant and corn should be planted, while he reported that, after two years in which the beans, in this campaign the grain will be contracted, with competitive purchase prices so that the producers are not affected.

Regarding the next sugar harvest, Valdés Mesa said that the contest in the country will be "short and efficient, which will allow to cover the national demand", given the lack of resources and other limitations.

He urged that Ciro Redondo and Ecuador, both with little more than 100 days of harvest, take advantage of the industrial capacity above 70 percent; and in the case of the first, stopped two years ago even though it received an investment associated with the Bioelectric project, it should start in the first days of December, although tests are expected to start at the end of October, the date on which it should synchronize with the bioelectric. Ecuador must start the harvest in January 2023.
