With the involvement of the legal profession, political, social and mass organizations, the province of Ciego de Ávila successfully implements the Family Code, a process that requires consistency in the preparation of the operators of this regulation, recently approved in the country by popular referendum.

Celia Ynchausti Pérez, vice president of the Ciego de Ávila`s branch of the Union of Jurists of Cuba, stressed that when the new law comes into force, strategies are developed to adjust the functioning of the agencies attached to the Ministry of Justice and the Multidisciplinary Advisory Teams of Family Processes.

She pointed out that a considerable number of processes and lawsuits are not processed; however, the interest and trust in the Code to resolve conflicts related to the custody and care of minors by grandparents in the face of emigration, disappearance, physical or mental limitations of the parents are appreciable.

Moreover, she added that cases related to the disposition of assets transferred to minors through wills, violations of the communication regime, and the care and protection of older adults in the family environment are managed.

Other issues are related to manifestations of domestic violence and gender identity, in the latter case favored by the selection of the province to implement a program of attention to transgender people, against and between which expressions of discrimination are frequent.

María Félix Arocha Hernández, provincial prosecutor of the Department of Family Protection and Jurisdictional Affairs, referred to the opinion of more than 20 cases related to usefulness, necessity and voluntary jurisdiction processes, including the adoption of a minor by a couple of doctors, incident that had great impact on social networks.

She stressed that the Prosecutor's Office has initiated processes associated with the protection of women, both in the family and in the legal-criminal sphere, with measures that benefit victims and victimizers of criminal acts, including the interposition of precautionary measures in their favor.

She explained that after the approval of the Code, a legal solution has been given to situations in the Home for Children without Family Protection, where there are infants with prolonged stays, such as the case of a little girl who will be able to reunite with her foreign parents, based on the benefits of the new law and coordination carried out by the Prosecutor's Office and the Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs.

The specialist exemplified that decision-making regarding minors with prolonged stay in that Home is facilitated, by establishing a term of 180 days to suspend parental responsibility in the face of persistent abandonment, so that negative behaviors and lacking values ​​can be solved and counteracted.
