When we talk about quality of care, one of the oldest debts of the Doctor Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial General Teaching Hospital, in Ciego de Ávila, may be to have a comfortable waiting room for the families of seriously and critically ill patients who wait, day after day, a favorable evolution in each medical part.

According to the plans, next December the ribbon that precedes its inauguration could be cut and, for this, a site has been chosen on the outskirts of this assistance center. It is the building near the Las Brisas gastronomic unit, semi-ruined, which is already beginning to change its image for the better.

The work is assumed by the Construction and Assembly Brigade No. 4, belonging to the Construction and Assembly Company of Ciego de Ávila, which, with around 25 workers, carries out demolition, repair and construction actions.

Andrés Almeida Díaz, Camagüey, in charge of the execution of the work, explains that they have all the necessary resources to complete the work, including cement and aggregates, which in recent times have presented ups and downs in their availability and made it difficult to advance in time and form.

“The carpentry will be aluminum, the connections and plumbing elements are already in place and the flat slabs that will be used on the roof are already cast. The only thing missing is work and commitment to meet the schedule and deliver with quality. There is still a lot to do, but we are committed to the task”.

The actions are part of the construction whirlwind that the institution is experiencing, with nearly 73 construction objects and more than twenty organizations and companies in the territory linked to the construction work to have, in the long run, a better hospital.

To date, among the reopened works are the Guardia Corps, with all its premises and consultation rooms; the cafeteria, the Protocol Room, the Transfusion Department, the Human Milk Bank, Legal Medicine, and the Orthopedics and Pregnant A rooms; while others will be considered investments due to the magnitude of the deterioration, as are the cases of the Obstetric Unit and Room D.
