    University students steal the show dancing salsa in Ciego de Ávila

    Last Monday night, the talent of the movement of amateur artists from Ciego de Ávila shone on stage, while the couple of Bettsy Núñez Sotolongo and Bárbaro Lien Vega made their best movements and crowned the emotions with the achievement of second place, at the national, in the University Festival "Bailando Casino", which began last September in all the houses of higher education in the country.

    The Ministry of Higher Education reported on its Twitter account, the first place went to the couple from the University in the west region, while the third place went to the duo representing the Technological University of Havana José Antonio Echeverría (CUJAE ).

    From her Facebook profile, the young described what happened at the closing of the event as "magnificent" and revealed the secret behind the luxurious presentation that led to success: "we went out to do what we know how to do best, we went out to dance , to make the public fall in love with our essence, and we achieved it”.

    Likewise, he considered as a great honor the opportunity to represent the province, the University of Ciego de Ávila Máximo Gómez Báez and the artistic musical-dance ensemble Telón Abierto, of which they are part, as a great honor.

    Previously, the B&B couple, as they are also named on social networks, was the winner at the Regional Festival, held in October at the Marta Abreu de Las Villas Central University, which put 14 dance couples from the universities of Camagüey, Ciego de Ávila, Sancti Spíritus, Cienfuegos and Villa Clara. In that event, the duet Reinaldo Yoel Martínez Simón and Adianys de la Caridad Caldo Pérez were also recognized.

    The Dancing Casino University Festival emerges as one more initiative of the Retaking the Son project that, in collaboration with the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, seeks to accredit this musical genre as Intangible Heritage of Humanity, promote Cuban popular dance and vindicate its place within the national culture.

    The three winning couples in the national contest will represent Cuba at the World Festival of Son Dancing Casino, scheduled to take place at the end of the month in Caracas, Venezuela. The event will not only bring together thousands of casino players, but also aims to break the current Guinness record that, in the casino wheel category, has been held by Spain since 2019, when 1,291 people participated in a wheel held in La Patrona Square in Canarias.
