Municipal elections process concluded in Ciego de Ávila

With the election this Sunday of the 33 delegates from the constituencies that had to go to the second round, Ciego de Ávila completed the 547 members of the Popular Power municipal assemblies and will not have to hold a third round of elections.

Marleny Báez Valdivia, vice president of the Provincial Electoral Council, explained that the participation in the elections was 58.43 percent, with the assistance of more than 20,000 voters. Of the 33 delegates, 18 are women and 10 are young people under 35, while seven are re-elected.

Regarding the quality of the vote, Báez Valdivia meant that 92.71 percent of the ballots deposited in the ballot boxes were valid, a result higher than that of the first round, since, with respect to that moment, the percentage of ballots in blank and cancelled.

The next step for Ciego de Ávila is to prepare for the inauguration of the municipal assemblies and the election of the presidency and vice presidency. Facing that moment, the municipal and provincial candidacy commissions are already working.

In this regard, Mariset Hernández Rodríguez, president of the Provincial Candidacy Commission, said that, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Law, until December 13 the consultation is carried out with each of the elected delegates on their proposals for the positions of president and vice president of the municipal assemblies.

On December 17, the agreed date for the constitution, swearing in and inauguration of the assemblies, the Municipal Electoral Councils will present the candidacy project and it will be approved by a show of hands by the delegates. Subsequently, the election will be held, by direct and secret vote, of the President and Vice President of the Assembly, in accordance with the requirements and the procedure established in the Electoral Law, for a term of five years.

Hernández Rodríguez also commented that the province begins this Tuesday to hold the plenary sessions of the mass organizations in which the pre-candidates for deputies to the National Assembly of People's Power will be proposed.

This step will take place until December 20, in which it will be ensured that those selected meet the conditions of capacity, merit, moral authority, popular acceptance and be representative of the different sectors and activities.

The elections to elect the deputies to the National Assembly of People's Power for a term of five years will be held on March 26, 2023, as announced by the convocation of the Council of State.
