Unions elect pre-candidates for Parliament in Ciego de Ávila

As an expression of power framed in the genuine popular character that characterizes the Cuban social project, and in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Law, this Thursday the Provincial Committee of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC) in Ciego de Ávila approved, in extraordinary plenary session, the proposals for pre-candidacies for deputies to the National Assembly of People's Power.

For the consideration of the 15 unions in the territory, 72 pre-candidates were proposed, of which 17 work in national level instances and the rest, belonging to the province, are representatives of mass organizations, leaders and workers of recognized trajectory and with achievements in their sectors, all endorsed by the prestige achieved in the work they carry out and the commitment to the country project that we defend.

Niurka Ferrer Castillo, general secretary of the CTC in the province, pointed out that this is another genuine demonstration of democracy and highlighted the importance of the union movement having the opportunity, as part of civil society, to choose —from the base, to the national level—to those who can best represent them in the highest body of legislative power in the largest of the Antilles.

This process, which complies with the provisions of article 171 of Law No. 127 Electoral Law, according to which the municipal, provincial and national candidacy commissions, request the direction of the mass organizations that make up the proposals of the voters that the plenary sessions of their highest management bodies understand that they can be considered as pre-candidates for deputies.

Pursuant to the provisions of the aforementioned law and the Constitution of the Republic, the past 1st. On December 26, the Council of State agreed to call general elections, which will take place on March 26, 2023, to elect, for a term of five years, the deputies to the National Assembly of People's Power.
