The Presidency of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus recently approved a declaration on the need to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the Government of the United States of America against Cuba.

Today, the website of the National Assembly of Popular Power reported about a declaration that states "the Presidency of the Council of the Republic resolutely censures the application by the United States of America of the sanctions against the Republic of Cuba."

The document also qualifies "the actions of the United States as a serious systemic violation of the principles and norms of International Law formulated in the UN Charter."

Likewise, it considers that the results of the vote on November 3, 2022 in the United Nations General Assembly of the resolution Necessity to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba "confirmed the rejection almost unanimous to the policy of sanctions and restrictive measures by the international community”.

According to the communiqué, the blockade against Cuba is the longest act of economic warfare against a sovereign State; whose consequences continue to limit the country's possibilities of economic growth, slowing down foreign investment, hindering trade relations with third countries, creating the maximum possible obstacles to banking and financial transactions.

Finally, it stresses that the cooperation between Belarus and Cuba has been based on friendship and mutual respect for several years, while expressing the Belarusian willingness to continue contributing to the deepening of understanding and trust between both nations and to keep working to strengthen multifaceted cooperation, including its parliamentary dimension.
