Campeones y humildad en premiación de los atletas del año en Ciego de Ávila

It may be that other years the protocol act has been better; the incentives may even have been more "reinforced", but one who has seen many awards to the best athletes of the year in the province, has only to recognize the love and humility of the honorees in the 2022 edition.

It may also be that, in other periods, the sporting results were superior to those of this year, but the number or quality of the medals does not always make acts of this nature great or small.

It may, of course, that future awards have equal or greater importance, but there is no doubt that, this time, bringing together almost all of the honorees is in itself a great merit for the organizers.

It was not for nothing that the highest political leadership of the province "moved its chips" so that the central act for the 64th anniversary of the Triumph of the Revolution, which took place in the Ciro Redondo municipality, did not coincide in time with the annual festival of our best athletes. In both, Liván Izquierdo Alonso, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the province, and Governor Tomás Alexis Martín Venegas were.

That is why the words of softball player Alain Román, one of the two most outstanding Cuban athletes in team sports in 2022, who thanked the organizers for the effort with which they took on the task, were felt. Moreover, as always, there were reunions between athletes who couldn't share a moment like this throughout the year. It was flattering, for example, to see a world youth boxing champion like Ronny Álvarez converse with his peers from other disciplines.

It was, without a doubt, an act that closed a year of not a few triumphs for the sports movement ─and not only medals or placements─, and already announces a 2023 with greater pretensions.
