Enrique Calderón Piñeiro, provincial director of Education, specified that 394 educational centers -380 pure and 14 mixed-, eight pioneer palaces, a pioneer explorer camp and two homes for children and young people without family protection, have opened their doors.

He stressed that the number of students grows by 707, in relation to the previous school year; more than 2,700 boarding students and around 32,160 semi-boarding students are registered.

He argued 187 admissions to daycare centers, 170 to Preschool, 756 to Basic Secondary, 592 to adult education and 65 to pedagogical training, figures that exceed those of students who graduate.

Calderón Piñeiro emphasized that teaching coverage is guaranteed, with the majority of the staff covered and the adoption of alternatives to complete the rest, including hourly contracts, the link of members of management councils to the classrooms, and the integration of speech therapists and educational psychologists.

Other variants are added such as the increase in the teaching load, increase in the pedagogue-child relationship, the incorporation of specialists from production and services to Technical-Professional Education (ETP), and benefits of workers of the Directorate Department of Sports, he continued.

He explained that, in difficult economic circumstances for the country, the minimum material resources for students are ensured, with adjusted norms in the assignment of notebooks and pencils, and the shared use of textbooks, according to the availability of the municipalities and educational centers.

Previously, the sale of school uniforms for students in Pre-school, fifth, seventh and tenth grade, first year of ETP and pedagogical schools was guaranteed, based on the priorities defined by the nation for a first stage.

The Provincial Director of Education highlighted as local priorities for the current school year the integral attention to the completion of the teaching coverage, the consolidation of the work to comply with the income plan for pedagogical careers and the transformations in the recognition system for teachers to reduce the exodus from the sector.

Likewise, the strengthening of the care strategy for the Pre-University Vocational Institute of Exact Sciences Cándido Gónzález Morales prevails as premises; and the improvement of methodological work and preventive work with vulnerable students and families, with the aim of reducing antisocial manifestations.
