    Growth of the non-state sector expands opportunities for development in Ciego de Ávila

    Some 3,480 jobs and opportunities for development arose in the province of Ciego de Ávila, during the year 2022, with the approval of more than 90 new economic actors.

    At the end of November, the Provincial Government of People's Power (GPPP by its Spanish initials) counted 119 micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MIPYMEs) and one non-agricultural cooperative, a figure that represents 64 percent of the proposals submitted to the platform of new economic actors since the start of the process.

    Documentary sources confirmed that these entities are represented in nine of the 10 municipalities of Ciego de Ávila─the territory of Bolivia is excepted─ and 65 (54.6 percent) were newly created.

    According to the classification of the companies, there are 20 micro, 61 small and 38 medium-sized companies, nine arising from local development projects and three ─Media Luna and La Ceiba, in the main municipality, and Carbón Vegetal Marabú, in the town of Venezuela─ inserted products in the international market.

    Most of the MIPYMEs (56) are linked to the provision of services, including five that carry out activities related to information technology; 32 produce and prepare food, and 30 correspond to the manufacturing industry, including another five that manufacture construction materials.

    There are 136 local development projects, dedicated mainly to economic-productive work and, to a lesser extent, environmental, socio-cultural and research, development and innovation activities.

    Owner of the small business El Pino Atrevido, Idilexy Morales Fajardo assessed the possibilities to expand its corporate purpose by having cafeteria, recreation and wholesale sales services approved, from which it plans to expand and explore other business opportunities in the territories of Morón and Ciego de Avila.

    It aspires to once again receive considerable numbers of international clients, as a result of the contracts it has maintained, for almost eight years, with the travel agencies Gaviota Tours and Cubatur.

    Marisleidy Fernández Lazo, sales representative of the Delavida local development project, dedicated to artisanal cosmetology, recognized the success achieved in little more than a year, by achieving stability in the market and inserting itself into the retail trade network of Ciego de Ávila, Camagüey, Sancti Spiritus, Villa Clara and Havana.

    She specified that they manufacture 33 varieties of soaps with medicinal properties, soap, face masks, nutritious and sulfur creams, Vaseline, lip balms, natural and essential oils, and aromatic candles, for sale in industrial product stores and from Artex, Cimex, and Caribe corporations.

    Yamilka Avilés Membribes, Director of Development at the Media Luna Agro-industrial Company, said that this mypime participates in the export of charcoal briquettes and by 2023 they intend to achieve packaging with their own brand, with the aim of facilitating product recognition and gaining space in the European market.

    She added that, since last November, other products such as mango pulp and guava bars have also been marketed in other countries.

    When recently constituting the section of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba in the province of Ciego de Ávila, Rubén Ramos Arrieta, vice president of that national organization, expressed the purpose of increasing advice on forms of non-state management for the identification and development of products with exportable values.
