The Educate Your Child Program (PETH) in Ciego de Ávila, nearing its 31st anniversary, seeks to consolidate intersectoral work strategies that allow us to move forward with firmer steps in supporting the family, to achieve the maximum possible comprehensive development of each boy and girl from birth to six years of age.

As Narmi García Pérez, a provincial PETH methodologist, explained to Invasor, the territory currently has a child population of more than 16,000 boys and girls linked to this educational modality, for 100 percent attention, where the largest number (10,227 ) is concentrated between two and four years of age.

She also pointed out that care comprises three modalities: during pregnancy, individual (once the boy or girl is born) and group, designed so that, once or twice a week, the executor meets in a place community with a group of families and their children, including those with special educational needs.

Unlike previous stages, the completion of a staff of 108 promoters stands out as a potentiality, in charge of advising the PETH in 62 popular councils of the province and the preparation of educational agents who, coming from different organizations, work with the 1,310 age groups in which children and families from Ciego de Avila are distributed, of which 499 are in rural areas.

As the provincial methodologist revealed, in recent times the PETH has been consolidating and looking for new scenarios, and today it not only extends its benefits to the communities, but also to the six penitentiary centers in the territory, in order to guarantee that , both men and women who are serving a sentence with internment, can participate in the education of their children by sharing various activities with them.

García Pérez explained that if better results are currently being shown, it is largely due to the work of the 1,681 voluntary executors who, although they are not entirely sufficient —because municipalities such as Chambas, Morón, Majagua, Ciego de Ávila and Baraguá add up to 91 needs—, are the achievement of a strategy for their recruitment, in which the support of organizations such as the Ministries of Education, Health, Culture and the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder), in both other organizations such as the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) still present an unstable participation.
