Results of science stand out in Ciego de Ávila

The most prominent results of science, technology and innovation in Ciego de Ávila during the year 2022 were recognized, today, in the provincial act for Cuban Science Day.

Rafael Pérez Carmenate, territorial delegate of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, signified the capacity of Ciego de Avila scientists to contribute to the fulfillment of the National Plan for Economic and Social Development, despite the economic complexities, increased by the US blockade.

The National Award of the Cuban Academy of Sciences in its 2022 edition, in the branch of Biomedical Sciences, was conferred on Dr. Ángel Lacerda Gallardo, an honorary member of that institution and worker at the Captain Roberto Rodríguez Fernández General Teaching Provincial Hospital, located in the municipality of Morón.

This gift was endorsed by the scientific and social contribution of the result of Decompressive Craniectomy in the management of severe head trauma with associated intracranial hypertension.

The Máximo Gómez Báez University (UNICA) and its Center for Bioplants were distinguished for research related to the preservation of fruits and vegetables using traditional methods, genetically modified organisms and biosafety in pineapple cultivation, and the crude extract of bromelain as Organic pepper seed germination stimulator.

In the field of natural and exact sciences, the house of higher studies itself and the Provincial Meteorological Center stood out, with studies on the analysis of maximum rainfall in the territory, and bioclimatic conditions and future scenarios in Jardines del Rey, the latter applied to tourism management.

UNICA was also awarded in the sphere of social and humanistic sciences for investigations that contribute to the improvement of the educational sector and reflect the impact of the Local Agricultural Innovation Project in the municipality of Baraguá.

In this category, a knowledge management system is also recognized in the transformative interactions of Florencia government actors for local development, and the results of the community social project Vivir y Vejecer a Plenitud, of the municipality of Morón.

Likewise, the University of Medical Sciences and Doctor Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial General Teaching Hospital received incentives for studies that introduce improvements in the teaching-learning process.

For the branch of biomedical sciences, the Morón hospital received recognition, with innovative proposals for treatment of diseases and research associated with the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the field of technical sciences, the study Image analysis system to determine the area of ​​the canopy of seedlings in acclimatization, from the Center for Bioplants, stood out.

The Provincial Award for Technological Innovation was awarded to the Hydraulic Use (EPAHCA by its Spanish initials), Construction Materials (AVILMAT) and food companies, and the Caracol Stores Branch, with outstanding work in this activity, in such a way that they favor economic-productive processes and the provision of services.

EPAHCA and AVILMAT were also honored for being finalists in the process for the Business Quality Award.

The 14 proposals for the National Prize for Young People and Research Students received incentives, in the edition corresponding to the end of the year, all with significant contributions to science in Ciego de Ávila.

CITMA extended recognition to other companies and new economic actors that incorporate science and innovation into their management, including Rincón Los Hondones Farm School with a Landscape Focus, the Agustín Balmaseda Basic Cooperative Production Unit, and the companies Cubasoy, Agropecuaria Arnaldo Ramírez and Assurance and Services to Education.

The agro-industrial MSMEs La Ceiba Farm and the local development projects Las Margaritas Dairy Factory, El Placer Farm, Delavida, SERVTES−Desarrollo and Guamajales are added to this list.
