Gente sin apagón

The constant blackouts caused something similar to short circuits in the quality of life of the Cuban population during the past year, but the high human energy generators that today recharge their commitments for 2023 with the celebration of the Day of the worker in the electrical sector that is celebrated every January 14 in the country.

The days characterized by short-time electricity periods are gone, a popular term used to characterize the time without service interruptions.

In Ciego de Ávila, for example, they lasted an average of three and a half hours, an alternative applied in this province despite the critical energy situation, with a view to not prolonging the effects on economic and household activities.

The last annual stage was marked by the insufficient assurance of material resources. However, the execution of the investment plan grew by about 75 million pesos compared to 2021, in relation to actions to ensure greater reliability of electricity in the continuity of the development of tourism infrastructure, agri-food programs and housing, among other priorities.

The assembly of 165 photovoltaic systems of the project to increase the energy strength of the communities in the face of extreme weather events, the completion of the express circuit at 33 kilovolts to feed the pipeline company of Ciegoplast high-density polyethylene, the elimination of clotheslines, electrification in three neighborhoods and 32 agricultural areas of the La Cuba productive pole, the opening of 981 new electricity services, the installation of saving light bulbs in public lighting and the change of 1,194 thousand faulty meters.

With more light the new year opens its doors and the motivation of men like Ignacio Pérez Ortega, Vicente Gómez Quiñones, Minel Chinea Ferrer, Gregorio Solano Hipólito and Emilio Mena Rodríguez, who treasure 40 years of uninterrupted successful work on the energy front and were encouraged at the provincial event for Workers' Day in the electrical sector in Ciego de Ávila, in the presence of Vicente de la O Levy, Minister of Energy and Mines.

Solidarity and unlimited dedication to the recovery tasks of the provinces of Havana and Pinar del Río affected by Hurricane Ian in September 2022, is another forceful example that the electricians are people without blackouts in the face of any contingency.
