Getting “a move on” in the cane harvest that by sowing takes away the cold, was the most popular phrase at the foot of the furrow on this highly productive winter Sunday day because many decided to leave home to plant the seeds in fields of the Revolution of Ethiopia Agricultural Production Company (CPA), one of the main productive bases dedicated to the cultivation of grass, in the province of Ciego de Ávila.

"The selection of this place, also of historical relevance for our Homeland, has been ideal, with a view to carrying out this mobilization in homage to the 84th anniversaries of the Worker Union of Cuba and the 170th anniversary of the birth of José Martí," Niurka Ferrer Castillo, general secretary of the CTC in the territory stated in full session field.

Near that CPA, precisely in the La Norma farm - today a monumental complex - Commander Ernesto Che Guevara, then Minister of Industries, drove a harvesting machine, whose event, which marked the definitive beginning of sugarcane mechanization in Cuba, will celebrate its anniversary 60 in February of this year.

Workers from different workplaces, administrative leaders, trade unionists and representatives of political and mass organizations, led by Liván Izquierdo Alonso, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Party in Ciego de Ávila, arrived there from dawn on January 15.

On several occasions, the partisan leader has insisted that the sustainability of the sugar sector depends on planting, for which reason he poses the challenge of planting the seeds this year in more than 12,000 hectares, a figure higher than that materialized in 2017, and the highest one in recent times.

It also advocates meeting the goal of 21,000 tons of sugar produced at the end of this month, based on stable milling, efficiency, and attention to agro-industrial workers with a varied gastronomic offer and better working conditions.
