Representatives from Saint Lucia and Dominica also participated in this already traditional event at the Le Lamentín Community Aquatic Center in Fort-de-France, in homage to the Sufrin triton, who died in 2002 at just 13 years of age.

Yunieskel Clavelo, from Camagüey, was the only Antillean to dress in gold, winning the 100-meter breaststroke (1:16.13 minutes), in addition to second place in the 100-meter butterfly (1:00.33) and third in the 200-meter freestyle (2: 06.65).

Another person who was on the podium twice was Melissa Cabrera from Havana: silver in the 200 free (2:21.05 minutes) and bronze in the 100 butterfly (1:12.78). Her compatriot María Carla Víctores finished fifth in the 100-meter breaststroke and eighth in the 50-meter freestyle.

In the case of Jonathan from Ciego de Avila and Melissa from the capital, both are part of the Cuban senior quartet that is preparing for the Central American Games in San Salvador this year.

This first encouraging result of swimming in our province, in an international competition, confirms that the good results of this discipline last year could be higher in 2023.
