With the participation of the majority of the members that make up the base delegation of the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC), the election of the direct delegate who will represent us during the XI Congress of the organization took place in the Invasor newspaper: Roberto Carlos Delgado Burgos.

The meeting was accompanied by Enrique Dámaso Rodríguez, acting president of the organization in the province, who offered timely assessments related to the internal functioning of the delegation and the significance of the process to be carried out.

It was Grether Martínez Segura, president of the base delegation, who explained the principles to be taken into account for the election and made clear the possibility of voting for only one candidate. Sayli Sosa Barceló, Roberto Carlos Delgado Burgos and Katia Siberia García were among the proposals, who were recognized for their merits and dedication to work, both in the generation of content and in the direction of the media in recent years.

The election of Roberto Carlos Delgado Burgos was approved by a majority and the criteria in favor indicated his ability to lead and the impetus he has given to vital issues for the proper functioning of UPEC in the center.

Sayli Sosa Barceló highlighted that it has been her enthusiasm and demand that has guaranteed active participation in each of the convened press festivals, even during the first edition the paper presented was made up of her graduation thesis for a Diploma in Public Administration, which was decisive for its correct implementation and for the prize achieved.

As it is stated in the call for the meeting, published on the Cubaperiodistas website, “this is the Congress of transformation. We will continue trying a renewing model of journalism that honors creation, up to the enormous challenges posed by serving an intelligent and informed people like few others”. With these expectations, we await the debate.
