The title is not wrong. There will be no waltz, nor are they just 15 years of an ephemeris, it is, yes, that the team of this discipline of the sport from Ciego de Ávila, this Volcano always in eruption, made true this Saturday the commitment to win its 15th title in the history of the National Field Hockey Championships.

Volcán del hockey avileño cumplió sus 15

It was with a convincing score of 4-1 against Santiago de Cuba that those led by Eliberto Sarduy won the title again, in a contest where they dominated undefeated from end to end of the calendar, since they only gave up a draw against Habana in the stage ranked.

Perhaps the final score against the indomitable team does not reflect the intensity with which that game was played, because although the locals were the first to score at minute seven through Geovanny Neninger, the players from Santiago equalized the score at minute 23 thanks to Accurate shot from Marcos Martínez.

That goal was like an injection of combativeness for the Orientals, who launched the attack with everything. That desire to look for the goal of the advantage caused the unchecking of the Ciego de Àvila attackers to begin to create cracks in the rear. It didn't take long then for Neninger himself to give the advantage to the multi-champions who would not lose for the rest of the match.

After that goal, there was a strong protest from the losers, who claimed to the main referee that the ball, before entering, had touched one of the attacker's legs and, therefore, it had to be annulled. However, the arbitral decision prevailed.

The gate defended by Miguel Silva, who was justly designated the best of the tournament, has been besieged since then by the counter-attacks from Ciego de Ávila, who added another two goals, both from the leader of the fight Carlos Manuel Consuegra.

In the award ceremony, Eliberto Sarduy was also recognized as the best coach and Richard Somantes Salas from Ciego de Ávila, as the most outstanding player, a midfielder who had brilliance in attack and defense. For Raúl Peña from Villa Clara it was the honor of being named the referee with the best performance.

The bronze medal corresponded to the squad from the capital thanks to its success against Las Tunas 2-1, while Camagüey and Villa Clara finished in that order.
