Nobility or humility are not trained or bought in a pharmacy on duty. The chronicler cannot affirm that one is born with it..., or it is made in the struggle of life. However, Randol Izquierdo Rodríguez, a young man who will turn 19 next December 4, seems to have spent an eternity with those attributes.

El soliloquio de Randol

When he was in search of glory, in the last stage of La Vuelta a La Farola, between pedaling and pedaling, in his soliloquy, it was said that this was the opportunity to thank his father and all his coaches for the time they dedicated to it in its preparation.

Moreover, he cannot help but think about the advice that his first coaches, Benito René Hernández and Raúl Torres, would give him now, “how much I would give to have them now, encouraging me from the team car”.

That day, when he entered the finish line triumphantly, he also thought about the figures who preceded him in cycling in Ciego de Ávila, those with whom he grew up listening to talk about his exploits, from Aníbal Torres, Rubén Companioni or Eliécer Valdés, to the most recent ones such as Companioni Junior or Ramón Martín, Cuquitín.

Now, when he has just finished third in the Individual General Classification in the II Tour of the East Region, the first thing he tells the journalist is that his compatriots Serguei Fernández and Juan Carlos Martínez, were also very good, with sixth place out of the first and, in the case of the second, despite arriving at the turn with hardly any preparation, it helped him in difficult moments.

For Randol, new competitions will come soon, from the March 8 Cup, La Vuelta al Centro and the Pan-American fair in Panama in April, but beyond his successes or failures, hopefully, he will never come down from the podium of simplicity.
