The monitoring of electricity consumption in the province during February concluded with an accumulated plan below expectations, but the analysis of the demands at peak times revealed imbalances and non-compliance, a pending task of the highest priority.

Ciego de Ávila: consumos en regla, sobregiros en picos eléctricos

At 92 percent of a plan of 59,998 megawatts (MW) the actual expenditure of the territory for the development of the set of planned socio-economic activities behaved, a figure in which the affectations to the service caused by deficit in generation capacities and breakdowns.

In this second month of the year, compliance with the demands approved during the periods of greatest consumption of the day and night was not possible, according to an audioconference with the municipalities from the provincial government to check the energy indicators.

The insistence on lowering the loads at noon and at night (from 5:00 to 7:00 pm), which for several days was between 8 and 10 MW, in both cases above what was projected, resides, fundamentally, in avoid the expense of diesel, an expensive fuel for which the country spends significant amounts of foreign currency, which, otherwise, could be used for other activities.

Regarding the visits to detect deficiencies in the state sector, the authorities state that it is necessary to increase the rigor of the inspections and the frequency of these. From the case study analysis, the case of Majagua stood out, where control visits are few and almost no violations are detected, something that might not seem so serious if it were not because, ironically, that municipality fails to comply with its plans.

From one week to the next, violations of the measures dictated to save electricity persist in almost all the territories; say lights on unnecessarily, agricultural irrigation at unauthorized times and not carrying self-reading.

Large energy consuming entities reiterate with indications in the list of defaulters: La Cuba Agricultural Company; Combined Meat Enterprise from Morón, Torula Yeast Factory; as well as the Primero de Enero Industrial Unit, which is producing sugar without an electricity consumption plan.
