The Coronel Simón Reyes Provincial Museum turned 40

This Tuesday, March 13, with the endless mission of safeguarding local and national history, the Coronel Simón Reyes Hernández Provincial Museum reached four decades after its inauguration the date on which the Assault on the Presidential Palace and the takeover of Radio Reloj are commemorated; actions in which Pedro Martínez Brito and José Assef Yara, from Ciego de Ávila, participated.

To celebrate the anniversary, the institution developed a previous program of activities that began with the exhibition of the transitory sample 40 years sharing history, among which stood out a plate for the centenary of José Martí made in the United States, plus the flag that the Apostle gave as a gift to the rebel Emilio Gordillo.

To strengthen links with pioneers and students of other teachings jointly with the Ministry of Education for the socialization of heritage and historical values, as well as promoting the social recognition they enjoy by political organizations, from masses and entities that make visits, meetings, other activities in the museum, were and continue among the larger-scale purposes, its director Lizzete Pérez Sánchez said.

Likewise, she highlighted the comfort, in new warehouses, that is given to museum objects, to the historical memory of a building that in 2015 was awarded the National Prize for Conservation and Restoration and that is considered the most significant of colonial architecture in Ciego de Ávila.

During the tribute gala, the museum awarded recognitions to personalities from the province and institutions and received others from socio-cultural centers, along with the Clotilde Agüero distinction, the highest award given by the José Martí Cultural Society.

Nexy Veliz Naranjo, a member of the Provincial Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba; Ania Rosa Francisco Malde, Lieutenant Governor of Ciego de Ávila; Julio Heriberto Gómez Casanova, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the main municipality; Viviana Martínez Cárdenas, president of the Municipal Assembly of Popular Power, and the city historian Ángel Cabrera Sánchez were present at the event.
