The passage of a cold front with its associated rains in recent days has caused a pause in the current sugar harvest in Ciego de Ávila, which needs to move forward without wasting time to recover the arrears in its sugar plan.

Some rainfall that, although beneficial due to the current drought in the territory, "stopped" the impulse to restart manufacturing operations at the Ciro Redondo Agro-industrial Sugar Company (EAA), whose groups are waiting for the humidity to withdraw from the fields to undertake Harvest.

Eduardo Larrosa Vázquez, director of Coordination and Technical Supervision of Azcuba Sugar Group in the province, reported to Invasor by after several work meetings and negotiations with the Chinese side, it was decided to start the Bioelectric, which ignited its boilers on March 18 thus, it led to resuming the grindings at the mill two days later.

However, on Tuesday March 21 it was necessary to paralyze it due to the rains. "The Pina Factory has the cane to grind the rest of March, April and early May, which could give us the possibility of looking for an important level of sugar that is close to or, even, the province's sugar plan can be met”, Larrosa Vázquez assured.

The so-called Colossus of the Center, after the frequency triggering (DAF) of the National Electro-energy System that occurred on February 14, was detained for 35 days, when the electrical protections of its energy center were affected: the Bioelectric Power Plant.

This renewable energy plant has reserves for the 60 days after the harvest and at the same time, the cutting of the marabou fields continues.

The Ecuador refinery, it is also affected by the rains. It has about 2,000 tons (t) of sugar left to fulfill its plan, but if it grinds as it has done in recent days, then between April 6 and 10 it would fulfill its commitments, the source commented.

Once the Baragüá factory completes its tasks, the strategy is to take the balance of resources from that company to be able to chop more cane for the Ciro Redondo mill, in order to advance the daily milling.

Regarding the Primero de Enero factory, the manager said that it was temporarily paralyzed this fortnight, and should start this week with a view to grinding all the cane in its area, estimated at approximately 35,000 t, to manufacture some 6,000 t of sugar, something positive considering that he does not have a plan.

"Under these conditions we need to have the best possible April with Ciro Redondo, who in a moment will be left alone grinding in the province because the raw material will be concentrated in the area of the EAA Ciro Redondo and Enrique Varona, by linking all that cane until the beginning of May.

Currently the province has more than 30,000 t of sugar produced and it would be missing some 25,000 t.
