May 1st: Cuban labor movement prepares celebrations

The Cuban labor movement is preparing various activities this Monday to celebrate International Workers' Day, among which are productive days and the traditional parade of May1st.

In accordance with the call launched by the Cuba Workers Union (CTC), under the motto To the Homeland, hands and heart, in work centers throughout the Island, the search for solutions to the identified problems, as well as the recovery of industrial capacities, and the creation of goods and services.

The commemoration will take place at a very unique moment for the country, which is facing an "intensified and multidimensional economic war", the appeal points out, which is why the efforts of the labor movement are concentrating on aspects such as food production, the reduction of imports, the growth of exportable items and the confrontation with speculation.

Cleaning days, volunteer work and the preparation of initiatives to take to the parade for the anniversary are part of the agenda provided by the unions to date.

The next  May1st, workers from all over the country will meet again in the squares and towns, this time motivated by relevant events in Cuban history, such as the 170th anniversary of the birth of the National Hero, José Martí (January 28, 1853), and the 145 years of the Baraguá Protest (March 15, 1878), meant the general secretary of the CTC, Ulises Guilarte.

To this is added the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks (July 26, 1953), and the 95th anniversary of the birth of the Argentine-Cuban guerrilla Ernesto Guevara, he added.
