Nearly 2,000 types of parts and more than 200 solutions to problems for companies and service sectors are the presentation portfolio for an entity noted for its high commitment to its social mission: Ciegoplast.

En Ciegoplast la eficiencia es palabra de orden

The company from Ciego de Ávila that produces high-density polyethylene pipes and connectors, received in 2022 the National Award for Technological Innovation granted by the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment (CITMA), and its director, engineer Sergio Barrios García, awarded it qualifies as a high recognition of society towards your company.

To receive it, first, they had to promote their economic sustainability, derived from production efficiency, and do it conscientiously and with a scientific basis, even if it seems redundant.

For this reason, they maintain the strategy of training production leaders, because an informed and capable staff is the first resource of an organization to maintain positive results, and the most important to practice technological innovation.

The energy situation in 2022 kept them practically out of work for a period of three months. However, Barrios García says they transformed more than 4,000 tons of raw material, which resulted in more than 420 million pesos in income and 44 million in profits.

Specifically, the strategies drawn up in 2022 were condensed into a package of solutions applied to the productive and organizational process, which makes it possible to ensure production, yes, but also incorporates environmental health management in the processes.

"All the raw material that enters the company comes out in the form of a product with quality standards, including waste or rejection," the manager explains. "Thus, the package has allowed us to close the economy, the cycle."

When talking about circular economy, productive chains and technological inventions in Ciego de Ávila, one can only look at Ciegoplast, a company that produces high-density polyethylene pipes and accessories, which currently responds to national needs with the manufacture of alternative productions, alien to its corporate purpose.

Thus, the efficient management of the materials allowed a total of 20 million pesos to be saved on their imports last year, a number that is by no means negligible considering the economic situation of the country.

Ciegoplast's impact has not only been felt in pipes and connectors. They have also ventured into the manufacture of parts for machinery, cages for the intensive rearing of fish, sponges and lobsters, and even products for the Health sector.

This entity that produces high-density polyethylene pipes and connections, belonging to Hydraulic Resources in Ciego de Ávila, is in the group of those in the country that focus on seeking profitability and satisfying the demands of the national market, without dismissing the incursion abroad.

In medical technology, the company works on the manufacture of canes for the blind and deaf, suture thread, and the recovery of cartridges for hemodialysis treatment, "in conjunction with rigorous scientific groups," Barrios García specifies.

Last but not least, it refers to the hydraulic program, for which they manufacture pipes and parts destined for water treatment plants that previously could only be imported, with the consequent monetary expense that this means.

In the last 19 years, the Cuban hydraulic system has benefited from more than 5,300 kilometers of high-density polyethylene pipes and joints, produced by the Ciegoplast Company, from Ciego de Ávila.

"We were the only entity from outside Havana to receive one of the eleven national awards and we received it with humility, surrounded by the most prestigious research centers in the country," the director states.

There is always room to recognize when science is done, and more so if it is done at the service of the economy, the country, and the people. A result that also earned the group the distinction of National Vanguard, awarded by the Workers Union of Cuba.
