El día en que nació nuestro Partido

“Because what the imperialists cannot forgive us is that we are here, what the imperialists cannot forgive us is the dignity, integrity, courage, ideological firmness, the spirit of sacrifice and the revolutionary spirit of the Cuban people.

“That is what they cannot forgive us, that we are there under their noses and that we have made a socialist Revolution under the very nose of the United States!

“And that we defend that socialist Revolution with those rifles!; And that we defend that socialist Revolution with the courage with which our anti-aircraft gunners riddled the attacking planes with bullets!

With their weapons raised, combatants from the Rebel Army and the National Revolutionary Militias swore the public oath proposed by the leader at the culmination of his vibrant intervention: "defend to the last drop of blood this Revolution of the humble, by the humble and for the humble people".

Today it can be understood more clearly what those words on fire meant. On April 16, 1961, not only the socialist character of the young Revolution was proclaimed. That day was sealed, with the blood of the seven victims of the bombing of Yankee planes in different points of the national geography, the inalienable decision to defend it to the last consequences.

Thus, it is understood that this was the date chosen to signify the founding of the Communist Party of Cuba, our Party.

From that pact for the future, those who, from the following day, would lead the first great defeat of imperialism in America with their exploits in Girón and Playa Larga.

In addition, from that wave of patriotism, ignited in the same proportion as the adversary's aggressiveness increased, a political vanguard was born, the result of the unity of a people that took up more forcefully the banners of Marxism-Leninism that Julio Antonio Mella and Carlos Baliño raised in 1925.
