Luis Ernesto de nuevo en el Capablanca

The Grand Master (GM) Luis Ernesto Quesada (2562) will participate in the 56th Capablanca in Memóriam International Chess Tournament, scheduled to take place from this Wednesday until May 12 at the Habana Libre Hotel.

Quesada, the first and only GM in the chess history of this territory, last year totaled 5.5 points to place fourth and become the best Cuban player in the contest. On that occasion, the winner was the American Hans Niemann, with 7.5 points out of nine possible.

In this new edition Luis Ernesto will be accompanied by his compatriots Elier Miranda (2515), Lelys Martínez (2531), Omar Almeida (2531), and Carlos Daniel Albornoz (2586), all with the highest title awarded by the International Chess Federation.

According to Carlos Rivero, president of the Cuban Chess Federation, Capablanca in memoriam 2023 will have the greatest historical participation in the open and senior groups, since it is expected that 10 Grandmasters, 85 players with international titles and, In addition, in the senior section, 40 contestants over sixty years of age will compete.
