Introductory overview

Ciego de Ávila as a province arises from the Administrative Political Division in 1975. As part of the transformations that the country was experiencing and that were reflected in the Socialist Constitution approved in the same period.
The main economic lines in the province are: tourism and agricultural activity, with a marked development and link between them, which get excellent results and make the territory a national landmark.

At the agricultural level, Ciego de Ávila has a 62 percent of agricultural land, of which 14 percent is used in temporary crops such as: rice, beans, corn, tubers, among others; a 16 percent is used in permanent crops such as sugar cane and fruit trees, while 32 percent is used in livestock. The remaining 26 and 12 percent correspond to the forest area, which is not suitable for agricultural work, respectively (Taken from: Earth Balance, 2017).

With the triumph of the Revolution, the National Institute of Agrarian Reform arose from the promulgation of the First Law of Agrarian Reform on May 17, 1959, which in one of its articles expresses its creation. This institution had as a core function to order land tenure, the administration of resources for its exploitation and at the same time, managed the entire process of transformation of production relations in the field through the subjects that emerge in legal agrarian relationships. It remains in force until November 1976, when the law 1323 on the Organization of the Central State Administration is out, giving way to the creation of the Ministry of Agriculture.

On August 6, 1997, according to the agreement number 3183 of the Executive Committee of the Minister's Council, this ministry is structured into 15 territorial delegations, in correspondence with the 14 provinces and the special municipality Isla de la Juventud.

From this moment on, an institutionalization process begins with profound quantitative and qualitative transformations, which extend to the present day. The Provincial Delegation of Agriculture in Ciego de Ávila was created by the Resolution 341 on December 15, 1976 with the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, and it has its legal place of residence in Máximo Gómez street, Ciego de Ávila municipality. In addition, the building where it resides was built before the triumph of the revolution and becomes the state heritage as a result of the application of the Urban Reform Law.
